In the spring of 1994 Evan Vanderwey left the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI with a diploma that read: “Bachelor of Science in Accountancy”, this hangs in his Okemos, MI offices today. None of the words of that degree would apply for very long because within five years Evan was married (no longer a bachelor), an owner of a Michigan Mortgage Brokerage company and other than analyzing tax returns for clients was doing nothing that resembled accounting work and leaving all science to the scientists.

Evan began working in the mortgage business in Lansing as an assistant to his current partner and brother, Steve Vanderwey in 1994. He quickly began writing mortgages for himself and when Steve decided to move back to Grand Rapids and hang his own shingle Evan took over the Lansing market for the long term.

Since he began, Evan has written almost $½ billion in mortgage loans! He has been on the top 200 loan officers list nationally for two years. He has a wife and six children as of writing this and lives with his family in Mason, MI just south of Lansing. Evan has served as the president of the local chapter of the Financial Planners Association in the past and is a registered investment advisor having passed the series 65 exam and opening Cornerstone Wealth Partners in 2008. Just this year Cornerstone was chosen as the only preferred provider of home loan services for listeners of the Dave Ramsey Radio Program heard locally on 1390 am Lansing.

The past few years have been the toughest but the most rewarding for Cornerstone Home Loans. Having served more than 2000 clients in the Lansing market over the past decade, hundreds of families rely on Evan’s advice with respect to their homeownership and financing needs. Evan helps his clients through some of this market’s toughest challenges and gives consistent focused advice to each family aligned with their best interest.

Evan has differentiated himself by focusing on giving excellent advice to every client. Cornerstone is not a transaction focused business; rather it values relationships more than any transaction of which it might be a part. Evan continues to sight this as the reason that Cornerstone will never need to worry about making a profit. When the relational value is high on both sides, then enough transactions will follow.
